Minister And Police Chief Meet With Heads Of Chareidi Municipalities

Minister of Public Security Gilad Erdan and Police Chief Roni Alsheich met with heads of chareidi municipalities. Erdan highlighted the importance of cooperation between his office and the chareidi tzibur.

A meeting was held Tuesday, 25 Cheshvan, between the Minister of Public Security and the Police Chief with the heads of the chareidi municipalities in order to hold a dialogue and cooperation between the police and the chareidi public.

A number of ideas came up on a wide range of topics. Among other things, there was a need for urbanization of cameras and reinforcement of municipal policing.

Minister Erdan: The important meeting today is part of a comprehensive strategic plan to strengthen the connection and trust between the police and the chareidi public. The meeting was to stress the Peleg faction represents a small minority and not mainstream chareidim, with the latter finding the behavior of Peleg protestors unacceptable, as did authorities.

We will continue to invest and create professional infrastructures in order to bring the police closer to the normative chareidi population, which is certainly the absolute majority. This is of paramount importance to both the police and residents in order to strengthen the personal security of the residents throughout the country.

Taking part in the meeting were Modi’in Illit Councilman Nachum Gitler, Beit Shemesh Mayor Moshe Abutbul, Elad Mayor Yisrael Porush, Bnei Brak Mayor Chanoch Zeibert, Rechasim Mayor Yitzchak Reich, Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Yitzchak Pindrus, Jerusalem Deputy Mayor Yosef Deutsch, Police Chief of Operations Aharon Levavi, and Israel Police Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Rami Barchiyahu.

Police Chief Alshich noted during the meeting that he welcomes the significant progress that has taken place since the previous meeting. He noted that the police operate out of the community and its strength, and the strengthening of ties with the heads of the public constitutes a doubling of the force of police activity and a prerequisite for its success.

Alsheich took advantage of the opportunity to warn against the widespread phenomenon of repairing vehicles in PA (Palestinian Authority) garages. Beyond the fact that this is an offense against the law, this is an uncontrolled security risk, as well as a partnership with the central generator of thefts of vehicles from Israeli citizens in the center to the PA areas. The demand for spare parts creates the order of thefts and thus the population that uses the garage services enjoys the theft! This is cheaper, as it is always cheaper to steal, but it is forbidden, and he also called on the rabbis to take part in halting the phenomenon.

The commissioner called for continued fruitful cooperation, while finding common solutions to the sector’s unique problems in the areas of compliance with the law.
